Microsoft already developing Surface 2: Report

Microsoft is only preparing to launch its first salvo in the tablet market, but that does not mean that the sleeping giant is going to rest on its laurels. Microsoft is already engaged in the development of the next Surface product if one goes by a couple of job postings on Microsoft careers. TechRadar has published a story that states that there are vacancies ranging from mechanical engineers to component specialists and materials experts to driver developers and audio engineers, in addition to industrial designers.
Despite complaints from its Windows hardware partners, Microsoft is going full steam ahead with the development of the next version of Surface. It is looking for alternative power sources, new construction materials including ceramics, metals and what not apart from innovating on the manufacturing process, like it has done for with Vapour Mag on the current crop of Surface devices. Microsoft is looking at Physical Vapour Deposition coatings that add a micron thick layer that makes the device cooler, more hardy and waterproof. This technology is used in Formula One car engines, luxury watches and waterproof phones.
